Featuring key act: Lee Joon Gi
Korea’s favourite actor-singer, Lee Joon Gi, will visit Singapore for the first time with his highly anticipated concert, ‘Lee Joon Gi [Thank You] Asia Tour’.
Lee Joon Gi debuted in 2001 and landed his first major role in the 2005 film ‘The King and the Clown’. The film achieved critical and commercial success, propelling the then-unknown actor into Asia-wide stardom and winning him numerous Best Newcomer awards. In the same year, Lee also played in a romantic comedy drama, ‘My Girl’, which became a hit in Korea and Asia, catapulting Lee further into the Korean Wave.
Lee went on to act in several films and dramas such as ‘Virgin Snow’ (2007), ‘Gwangju Massacre’ (2007), ‘Time Between Dog and Wolf’ (2007), ‘Iljimae’ (2008), ‘Arang and the Magistrate’ (2012) and ‘Scholar Who Walks The Night’ (2015). In 2008, Lee was chosen as the Ambassador for the Seoul Hallyu Festival and made the promotional ambassador of the Korea Tourism Organisation in 2009.
In 2016, Lee was cast in the lead role of Wang So in “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo”, a Korean remake of the hugely popular Chinese television series, “Bu Bu Jing Xin”. The drama received tremendous response in South East Asia and China where it averaged 100 million views per episode during its simulcast through China's Youku channel. Along with the drama’s international success, Lee’s popularity sky-rocketed, making him one of the most sought after Korean actors in the region.
The multi-talented Lee is also a versatile singer who has released singles and mini- albums including ‘My Jun My Style’ (2006), ‘J Style’ (2009) which has both a Korean and a Japanese version, ‘Deucer’ (2012) and ‘Case By Case’ (2013). From upbeat dance tracks to romantic ballads, the charismatic star’s ability to pull off any style has allowed him to carve a name for himself in the highly competitive K-Pop market.
To thank his fans for their unwavering support, Lee released a new single album, ‘Thank You’ and is now on an Asia concert tour in support of the album. Tickets to his concerts in Taiwan and Hong Kong were swept up upon its launch. Come March, fans in Singapore and around the region will finally have the chance to catch Lee in concert with his headlining act ‘Lee Joon Gi [Thank You] Asia Tour Live in Singapore’.
Featuring support act : Thirdstory
Also making their debut appearance in Singapore at the music festival is Thirdstory, a band from USA.
Known for their sublime vocal harmonies, Thirdstory is much more than a vocal group. Described by Pusha T as “unique, raw and fundamentally talented,” they are a collective of distinctly gifted singer-songwriters and performers. Thirdstory mixes pop songwriting and soulful singing with electronics and live instrumentation, an eclectic mix that also includes elements of folk guitar and hip hop production.
Elliott Skinner, Ben Lusher and Richard Saunders formed Thirdstory in 2013 after a serendipitous meeting on New York's Lower East Side. The trio’s heart-wrenching cover of Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One” quickly garnered over 390,000 views (and counting) on YouTube, and has fans from across the globe begging for more. Their crowning achievement thus far is their first EP, Searching, an emotionally expansive and impactful debut produced by Malay (whose recent work includes Frank Ocean's "Blonde"). On stage, the band’s irresistible soulful sensibility comes to life, enrapturing packed houses with clever, hard-hitting lyrics and live vocal looping as they trade off instruments.
Their debut album will be released later this year.
Featuring local act: Gentle Bones
Adding to the line-up is our very own singer-songwriter, Gentle Bones.
At only 22 years of age, Joel Tan aka Gentle Bones, is making waves in the music industry with his distinct music style. His recent EP, “Geniuses & Thieves” hit the No. 1 spot on iTunes upon its release on 3 June 2016 with the hits ‘Run Tell Daddy’ and ‘Geniuses & Thieves’. Two back to back sold out concerts were staged at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay in the same month.
Other milestones that topped off an incredible year include being the first Singapore artist to win the Super Nova Award at the Hong Kong Asian-Pop Music Festival, the only Singaporean to be listed in the inaugural Forbes Asia “30 Under 30” for entertainment and sports personalities, performing at the Asia Song Festival in Busan Korea in front of a 30,000 strong crowd, alongside established Korean artistes like EXO.
Featuring local act: Jack and Rai
A local crowd favourite, Jack Ho and Rai Kannu came together in 2002 to form an acoustic/rock duo with a chemistry that borders telepathic. Their easy-going and engaging nature makes any audience feel right at home at their performances
They launched their album “In Stores Now!” in 2008 which featured hit songs like ‘The Fa La La Song’ and ‘Fiona’. Since then, in addition to regular gigs at local bars and cafes, they are also in demand producing soundtracks for local television shows as well as advertisment jingles.
Featuring local act: DJ Bounce Squad
One of Singapore’s most popular DJ duos, Bounce Squad was created by veteran electronic dance music artiste, Inquisitive, alongside Yeolo, the biggest leading name in the next generation of DJs.
With a total of 19 years experience under their belt, including a 3-time DMC champion by Inquisitive, these DJs have played at Singapore’s most prominment clubs and festivals overseas. The duo also signed their latest single ‘MURDA’ featuring local radio DJ Joshua Simon with Universal Music that deubuted third on iTunes.
Formed in late 2014, Bounce Squad has been recognised for their original productions and remixes, garnering over 300K in track plays. With two minds controlling the decks, Bounce Squad seamlessly transitions between a wide range of genres and styles - expect Trap, Commercial EDM, Bangerz, Top 40s and Hip Hop - all in one performance.
