The first solo K-Pop fanmeet held the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The first K-Pop idol to eat durian on stage, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The first artist to have his photo printed on the ezlink card (Singapore’s transport card). Three “firsts” all ticked by the one-and-only CEO Kang Daniel.
Kang Daniel – COLOR ON ME – Press Conference
After being on hiatus for close to half a year, former center of Wanna One, Kang Daniel is back strong with his long-awaited solo debut and first ever solo fanmeet - ‘KANG DANIEL FAN MEETING: COLOR ON ME’. Singapore fans could not be more thrilled to have him back in town last weekend for it.
The fanmeet was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium which made it possibly the largest venue for a K-Pop fanmeet in Singapore to date. For context, it was the same venue where Wanna One had their ‘ONE: THE WORLD World Tour in Singapore’ last July. Impressive, huh? Having emerged as the winner of <PRODUCE 101 Season 2> in 2017 and being dubbed the nation’s (Korea’s) center, we expected no less.
Further proving his popularity and impact, his debut album titled, ‘Color On Me’ chalked up an impressive pre-order record of over 450,000 copies. For the record, it was said that the only other two groups to have achieved such a feat are popular boy groups BTS and EXO - What an amazing feat!
And count us lucky - Singapore marked the first stop of Kang Daniel’s fanmeet tour and only stop that he would be holding a press conference. Daniel made his entrance into the room and greeted the media with his signature eye smile, looking all cheerful and radiant. He was dressed in a full black suit which we felt exuded his charismatic persona perfectly.
Daniel took the normal exit route instead of the usual opt for VIP route by idols when he arrived on Wednesday night.
When asked the reason for doing so, Kang Daniel – who has nothing but immense love and gratitude towards his fans for their unwavering support – responded: “I wanted to meet and interact with the fans as much as possible.” He was touched by the warm welcome and turnout of fans at the airport that night.

He went on to reveal his inner feelings - The pressure of having to fill up the stage all by himself compared to the days where he would share the stage with his other Wanna One members. However he takes the concern in stride and was grateful for his reliable dancers who were his support on stage. “ I think I will be able to show more of myself to my fans,” he said.
Having took part in writing the lyrics for the debut album, Kang Daniel gave insights to the album’s making process, the meaning and inspiration behind each song.
Why ‘Colour On Me’ as the album title? Daniel expressed his wish to show fans the many different colours (sides) of himself and revealed that he is considering a heavier and darker concept for his next album.
On the topic of colours, he was also asked to pick a colour that best represents each track on the album. Then what is his favourite colour? It is the colour black. “When all the colours merge, it will become black,” he explained. Who could have thought that such a simple answer can hold such a meaningful reason behind.
Daniel also included that he wishes to see fans dressed in pink during the fanmeet – the word “Pink” made it to trend list on Twitter (Singapore) that evening and fans showed up in different shades of pastel pink on the day of the fanmeet.

Kang Daniel COLOR ON ME in Singapore
Given that it was the first time ever that Kang Daniel was holding a fanmeeting since the release of his solo debut album, fans were thrilled and was anticipating the fanmeet to start. We felt the energy filling up the stadium as the opening VCR played – the stadium exploded in screams when Daniel finally appeared in a blue suit and opened the fanmeet with “Intro (Through the Night)”, displaying his elegant yet powerful dance moves.
He continued to make fans swoon with “Color” as he sang earnestly while taking the time to look at his fans.
Moving into the talk segment, Daniel shared that he got a chance to try out an extreme ride while preparing for some video contents during his free time in Singapore. He mentioned that he had no intention to take the ride, but he enjoyed it nevertheless. The star added that fans can look forward to the contents that he will be putting out. Are you looking forward to see Daniel’s reaction when taking the ride?
On what he remembers the most about Singaporean fans, he replied that the fans here really cheered on him alot and they always seem to understand his Korean – “ I thought that it was fascinating, and Singapore fans are really smart!...(thumbs up)”
While sharing his thoughts on finally seeing his fans after 6 months (of hiatus), Daniel said that he was so nervous that his hands were shaking when holding the microphone. (He then proceeded to show fans to what extent his hand was shaking.) Daniel also teased that he almost cried “at weird timings” because he was so touched and nervous at the showcase (in Korea) but did not cry in the end, much to the fans’ amusement.
Daniel could not go on without mentioning about his favorite teaser picture being the yellow one with his side profile – he also emphasised “jaw line” while the translator was translating. It reminds him of his song “Color” and he thinks that it suits the theme very well since he looks like he is deep in thought.
Game segments ensued as Daniel guessed meanings of Singlish words and played “Eating and Dancing”. He danced to viral dances like the Level Up and Rolex dance as his punishments.
He became the first ever Kpop artist to try the King of Fruits on stage when an impromptu durian tasting challenge happened after the games. Surprisingly, Daniel seemed to be fine with the strong smell and found it not bad!

Daniel then set the stage on fire with his body rolls and hip thrusts for the song “Horizon” before appearing once again in a neon pink outfit to perform title song “What Are You Up To”.
The night came to an end as Singapore fans surprised Daniel with a special fan video and slogan fan event. Befitting of the mood, Daniel took the center stage and performed the last song of the night “I Hope” – a song he wrote for his fans. The fanmeet ended on a high note and the energy from fans were still at an all time high even at the end of the fanmeet. Daniel took his time to bow, thank his fans, and say good-bye. “See you soon!”, Daniel repeated before exiting the stage.
We are definitely looking forward to Kang Daniel’s next visit to Singapore!
