Despite having debuted earlier this year, LC9 certainly have a lot to live up to, debuting from the same stable as girl group Brown Eyed Girls and rock outfit Lunafly. So how do the latest entrant into the intensely competitive boy group sector do in their first outing to Singapore?
Decked out in outfits more suited for a performance, props had to be given to E.Den, the rapper, for not starting with the usual introduction of the group, but choosing to give a gushing take on Singapore (more greenery than Korea, at least from Singapore), and that saying that they pleased to start off their regional showcase here.
After that offbeat but fun and politically correct introduction, they proceeded to give an introduction of themselves, before going into questions fielded by the emcee, on the meaning of the name, as well as artistes they looked up to.
On the group’s name, leader Rasa replied that it was an acronym for League of Competition Nine. Giving the analogy of a game, he elaborated it was how they viewed the other groups as being equally tough, but through their abilities, they would be able to beat the odds and succeed.
In some ways though, to debut was already a success for them. Rasa also spoke of how how within the group they had competed to be the final six members to debut after being selected as part of a group of nine, which was how the nine in the name came about.
Certainly the group could not be called lacking in musical ability, at least where influences were concerned. The various members cited groups or solo acts that inspired them, ranging from top boyband SHINee, to K-Balladeers Monday Kiz, as well as Bruno Mars for being an inspiration as they covered his songs in live performances.
The questions from those present, on the other hand, largely were about future plans within the group. On that Rasa replied that they were planning to hold a Showcase in Indonesia in January 2014, as well as prepare for a comeback in Korea for the first quarter of 2014, with most aspects of it underway. However, in the nearer future, they would be having a Christmas Release with Brown Eyed Girls and Lunafly, so that would be something to watch out for in December.
In some ways, they also cited having good seniors as a way of helping them stand out, by being able to tap into their expertise to produce songs that would be different, yet likeable. As for their musical styles, they are aiming for a mix of Hip-hop and electronic sounds, and prevailing trends, to achieve the above.
Before posing for a few more press photographs, they also encouraged those present to look out for their performance later (see below), which they said would present us with a never seen before side to them.
