Have you ever wondered about the secrets behind the perfect glass skin of your favourite Korean celebrities? Or how they seem to look flawless even after possible sleepless nights during their comeback period or when they are filming a new drama?
Avid fans of Korean beauty may know where to find their answers – Get It Beauty! The show proved itself to be an award winning beauty programme where the latest K-beauty tips, products, and trends are discussed. Besides showcasing the ‘it’ items of the season, invited stars and celebrity make-up artists on the programme may also drop a secret or two. Now, Get It Beauty! is moving out of the studio and coming to Singapore – helmed by none other than Sandara Park, who was a co-host of the show in 2017!
Get It Beauty On The Road is tvN Asia’s brand-new original production in 2018, where they bring the show out to the streets of our sunny Singapore. Sandara Park, or better known as Dara, is no stranger to most, as she was a member of 2NE1 before they parted ways in 2016. Alongside local artistes Chantalle Ng and Tay Ying, as well as beauty experts Kim Ki Soo and Song Jin Joo, they hunt down the latest beauty trends and gadgets in Singapore.
Expect reviews and tips tailored for our ever hot and humid climate – a climate that sadly disagrees with many of Korea’s beauty trends, such as the predecessor of the glass skin trend, the dewy, chok-chok skin. Indeed, Dara agrees, as she advises Singaporean girls to choose the right products to prevent our make-up from becoming cakey, and while Chantalle jokes about seeking refuge indoors – advises to put on sunblock and drink more water!
Speaking about this cross-border partnership, Chantalle and Tay Ying only had good things to say about their megastar co-host Dara. Both are big and long-time fans of Dara, and to be given a chance to work with their idol is no doubt a dream come true.
Despite their initial nerves, it was clear that Dara’s great personality had made them bigger fans than before as they gushed about how beautiful Dara is, inside and out. Tay Ying described Dara as an “angel” and mentioned that they had fun working together. Chantalle echoed similar sentiments as she shared, “It is so beautiful to see that she is so famous, but still so grounded. I feel that there is a lot to learn from her. It was really an honour.”
On a similar note, both Chantalle and Tay Ying are quick to pick up from their more experienced co-host. When asked to share about her secret to great skin, Dara humbly refuted, “There is no secret. I am also human, so I also get sweaty, and I also don’t look good when I wake up.” She recommends doing one mask pack a day regardless of how tired you are.
Dara believes that good skin is a product arising from the diligent use of skincare products – such as finding targeted treatments to repair your skin, depending on your own skin type and issues. Chantalle and Tay Ying quipped that they quickly adopted the same habit of putting on a mask every night. They added that getting enough sleep and taking supplements are all part and parcel to achieving great skin.
In fact, facial masks appear to be at the top of Dara’s must-have product – when asked to pick just three items to use at a photoshoot, her picks were: a sheet mask in place of a possibly lengthy skincare routine, followed by a BB cushion, and a versatile lipstick that can be used as a blush and eyeshadow as well. Coincidentally, or perhaps reflecting Dara’s deep knowledge for skincare and make-up, all three hosts’ favourite skincare or make-up trends reflect these three items.
Highlighting her steadfast loyalty to masks, Dara explains that sheet masks printed with funny characters make the entire skincare routine less boring and a little more entertaining. Chantalle opted for the natural, no make-up look as her favourite beauty trend from Korea, which she thinks would look great on students. Adding on the finishing touch, Tay Ying raved about the gradient lip trend that is now more commonplace even in Singapore. Follow these skincare and make-up tips, and perhaps you too, can look like your favourite Korean stars in no time!
All work and no play makes Dara a dull girl – besides discussing about beauty, Get It Beauty On The Road also promises to showcase the most stylish spots of our Lion City. Leveraging on her longer than usual stay of eight days in Singapore, Dara took the chance to fulfil her wish of exploring the city – a wish she harboured when she was in town with 2NE1 members for their concert.
Dara confidently named the places she visited, ranging from the touristy Universal Studios Singapore and Singapore Flyer to the edgier Clarke Quay. Judging from her Instagram posts, fans can also look forward to seeing Singapore on her own reality program, Dara TV, where she accurately embodies her belief of "always try(ing) to prepare for everything" so she will "always be ready when the opportunities come".
Although Dara’s future plans remain uncertain, we can be sure that she will remain busy with beauty through pictorials in Korea and Get It Beauty On The Road.
