After leaving Girls’ Generation and venturing into the fashion business, Jessica Jung continues to grow BLANC & ECLARE in the Asia region.
Focusing on a minimalistic approach of “less is more”, Jessica gathers inspiration from her mother, who she sees as a very elegant and classy woman. This resulted in a simplistic brand concept, where Jessica strives for “a classic aesthetic with a little twist of cool details”.
BLANC & ECLARE is known for their designer sunglasses, which are named after major cities of the world, such as “Seoul”, “New York” and “Tokyo”. Jessica has aimed for these sunglasses to encapsulate the different trend preferences in the different places she has visited. These sunglasses have been well received, as seen in China alone, where the sunglasses were sold out in a matter of minutes’ prior to the launch at Lane Crawford.
As of September 2015, BLANC & ECLARE can be found in many countries across Asia – China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand.

Getting Up Close & Personal with Jessica
Owning the role of Creative Director and “face” of BLANC & ECLARE, fashion onlookers and fans were curious and excited to see what she has to offer. Having built a reputation for herself when it comes to fashion over the years, BLANC & ECLARE was launched amidst much fanfare and attention from fans and media. This attention surrounding BLANC & ECLARE before its launch helped to establish its brand awareness. Subsequently, it laid a solid foundation of support for the brand to build and work on.
Upon launching their denim line in Singapore at Salon by Surrender on Thursday, 27 Aug 2015, BLANC & ECLARE held a fan-signing session for the first 120 who purchased a minimum of $350 worth of products – rewarding themselves with the opportunity to meet Jessica up close.
Similar to the events that happened in China and Korea, this attracts the attention of the necessary target markets – fashion-savvy and well-to-do fans.

BLANC & ECLARE’s Style and Aesthetics
The overall style of the BLANC & ECLARE is simple, classic and minimalistic, taking cues from Jessica’s personal style preferences, as seen from her airport fashion.
A quick scroll through Jessica’s airport photos would reveal her personal style – dresses, shirt with jeans, or an outerwear thrown over a simple top – creating a smart and chic look. She also often tops off her outfit with a pair of sunglasses.
BLANC & ECLARE products have hints of Jessica’s personal style – black, white and denim. As expected, Jessica would have been most confident to work with styles and colours she personally favours in her first line of products.
BLANC & ECLARE’s sunglasses have high quality polarized lenses that reduces glare well, and are also designed to have the perfect Asian fit – it sits nicely on the nose bridge without touching the cheeks.
Despite boasting a simple, quality line to its name with designs that are easy to please, the heavy price tag may work against its favour – it may pose a challenge especially since it utilizes Jessica’s existing fan base that may include many young fans who may not be able to afford. Also, there is limited sizing for their apparels (particularly jeans and shorts) – with the largest being a size 30 instead of a size 32 that other brands would carry.
Also, given that BLANC & ECLARE does not aim to serve the fast fashion market, fans have supported and grew a liking to towards their existing products.

Survival of BLANC & ECLARE
Since the launch of the brand, various K-pop artistes have been spotted wearing BLANC & ECLARE’s merchandise. Her sister, Krystal from f(x) has been seen on multiple occasions wearing the sunglasses as well as the denim collection in support of her sister. Other artistes include Kris Wu Yi Fan (ex-EXO member), B1A4’s Baro, CNU and Gong Chan, KARA’s Goo Hara, as well as Actress Park Min Young.
With a steady fan base and a good line of products in place, we look forward to see what else BLANC & ECLARE has in store to attract more eyes on the brand.
During the press conference at the launching of her denim collection at Salon by Surrender in Singapore, Jessica mentioned that Krystal and other artistes might be involved in the production of upcoming products of BLANC & ECLARE. We are excited to see the product of this collaboration to make it an even more multi-dimensional brand.
Many say that the brand is here to stay for a while, we would like to think that too. Nevertheless, the big question is: Will BLANC & ECLARE survive in the tough fashion business?
Celebrities-turned-Fashion Designers
Celebrities setting up their own fashion labels are no strangers to us, and some have seen great successes. Victoria Beckham, Spice Girl singer turned fashion designer as well, raked 1.3 million pounds in profit in 2013 and “Brand of The Year” award at British Fashion Awards.
Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, star-turned-fashion designer sisters who founded The Row in 2004, has built for themselves a multimillion-dollar label and also bagged two prestigious awards from Council of Fashion Designers of America awards – “Womenswear Designer of the Year” and “Accessory Designer of the Year”.
Both brands belong to the haute couture segment of the market, similar to BLANC & ECLARE.
Would BLANC & ECLARE be able to replicate these successes? With a serving of good foresight, a heaping of great leadership, we hope to see Jessica bringing BLANC & ECLARE to greater heights.
