Skechers Sundown Festival has musically united countries from around the region since 2014 and is one of the largest music festivals in Singapore. This year’s edition evolved into a 3D2N party that sported a full-blown participation from around the region, coming together to showcase and celebrate all things Asian.
With more than 50 Asian artists coming together to form the stellar line-up, the 3D2N festival successfully wrapped with one of the hottest acts from Korea. "Let's have fun tonight!" – and fun did we have when headliners of Utopia stage, iKON, treated festival goers to explosive performances that hyped up Day 3 of Skechers Sundown Festival 2019. Formed by YG Entertainment, the seven-member South Korean boy band made their debut in 2015 though reality survival program, Mix & Match.

iKON made a stop in Singapore for their world tour last November and iKONICs were definitely pumped to have the boys back on our shores again – evidently seen from the massive crowd gathered in front of Utopia stage, armed with red lightsticks waiting patiently for their favourite boy band to perform. Energy levels were off the roof when iKON finally appeared and opened their set with hit-song ‘Love Scenario’ and ‘My Type’ before moving on to their self-introductions.
The boys mentioned how much they missed fans in Singapore and expressed their delight to be back again, taking turns to hype up the crowd and making sure that everyone was ready to have a good time.
‘Bling Bling’ and ‘Rhythm Ta’ pumped up the crowd with its powerful and captivating beats, and had iKONICs singing along and waving their lightsticks in sync. iKON then took the time to interact with the audience – they joked around in fluent English and told iKONICs that the stage is only going to get hotter and hotter. Well it sure was HOT with iKON in the house!

Donghyuk made sure that iKONICs were ready to party, and got everyone to throw their hands in the air and scream like crazy. Jinhwan mentioned that it was super hot – in which Bobby responded by asking him to take his shirt off. Jay said that he had nothing underneath, and guess what Bobby said? “That’s that point tho.” – garnering a huge amount of deafening screams from iKONICs that were present.
iKON further heated up the stage with their high energy performances of ‘Bday’ and ‘Dumb & Dumber’ – proving their words when they said it was going to be HOT. These boys sure knew how to get the crowd fired up! Highlight of the night was when iKON started splashing water onto the crowd, not to mention how Bobby “accidentally” splashed an entire bottle of water onto Jay!
iKON definitely put up a show-stopping performance that left iKONICs wanting for more after being treated to such explosive and fun stages.

Other than iKON, K-Hip Hop legend MFBTY – acronym for ‘My Fans (are) Better Than Yours’ – were also present to headline Nirvana stage on Day 2 of Skechers Sundown Festival 2019. Veteran artistes Tiger JK, Yoon Mi-rae and Bizzy also brought the house down with their infectious energy and signature tunes.
MFBTY were constantly trying to “beat” Utopia stage by turning up their bass and getting the crowd to scream as loud as they could. Despite having their set on a smaller stage compared to Utopia, MFBTY got the crowd fired up and delivered only the best for those that were present – their stage was definitely one that should not be missed. The trio performed a mix of songs like ‘Mantra’, ‘Bam’, ‘Angel’, ’Black Happiness’, ‘You & Me’, ‘Pay Day’ and ‘Monster’.
The DJ also playfully played ‘Always’ – hit OST from popular Korean drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’ – leaving Yoon Mi-rae slightly flustered. She was laughing in embarrassment and covering her face with the towel in her hand while trying to get the DJ to cut the song. Laughing it off, Yoon Mi-rae said that it was not their next song but thanked the audience for loving ‘Always’. She promised to sing it when they return to Singapore in future. We’re definitely looking forward to hearing it live!

In between their set, Tiger JK came down the stage with a box of water and started giving them out – what a legend! MFBTY also used water guns to help cool down the audience, and that was not it – Bizzy appeared with a stack of CDs and a bunch merchandise to give out to their fans, taking time to shake their hands while giving them out. To MFBTY’s fans, that definitely means ‘My Favs are Better Than Yours’ (winks).
While iKON stole the limelight at Skechers Sundown Festival 2019, the atmosphere and energy levels during MFBTY’s stage was a true example of how everyone should rock out at music festivals.
Big thank you to Skechers Sundown Festival for having us at the event!
