GFRIEND returned to our sunny island for their first full-fledged concert – 2019 GFRIEND ASIA TOUR [GO GO GFRIEND!] – that happened on 20 July at the Star Theatre. Fans in Singapore were finally able to meet GFRIEND again after three long years! Was it worth the wait? Definitely! The girls presented an entertaining and fun-filled three-hour concert which had left fans wanting for more.
Opening the night with their biggest hit single “Me Gustas Tu”, fans were hyped up from the very beginning. Not just good at cutesy concepts, GFRIEND also showed many different sides of them that night. The girls also brought us hits like “Hope” – a song which the girls had written the lyrics to – as well as a ballad version of “Rough”.
The girls paraded their strong vocals and perfectly synchronised dance moves throughout the concert – showing no signs of slowing down those killer moves at all. GFRIEND truly owned the title of having this level of synchronization and on-point choreography that they were very much known for in the K-Pop industry.
Buddies also witnessed unit performances from Team WORLD PEACE (Sowon, Yuju and SinB) and Team HUG HUG (Yerin, Eunha and Umji). Leading up to the unit performance was a VCR of both teams coming together and preparing for their “debut”. The girls mentioned that they were able to try their hands at acting as they got into character for each of their roles.
WORLD PEACE delivered an electrifying performance of the catchy “Monday Blues” in cheetah print outfits while HUG HUG performed “Shy Boy” in cute, hot pink dresses. We’ve got to say that we thoroughly enjoyed this part of the show!
The girls also brought fans to laughter with their very own parody of “Infinity War” and “End Game” with their War of Masters VCR that showed fans their comical sides. But in what context you may ask? The ability they have as a “Master” in their chosen sport.
GFRIEND’s recent comeback with “Fever” had already won them six wins on music shows and broke their personal first-week album sales record. In hopes that Buddies in Singapore could get a chance to watch them perform the latest title track live, leader Sowon even ran backstage to make an impromptu request!
Unfortunately, they were not able to perform it officially due to technical difficulties. However, the girls performed short acapella version of “Fever” with Buddies supporting them. Buddies enjoyed it nevertheless!
As the concert came to a close, Buddies gave the girls a pleasant surprise with their fan project – bringing members Eunha and Yuju to tears. Leader Sowon expressed that the fact that Singapore Buddies had waited for them for 1050 days really touched her. GFRIEND promised that they will be back much sooner than before.
We are looking forward to the next time GFRIEND returns to Singapore!
